How To Be Confidently Colorful At Any Size

how to be confident in colors at any size

I’ve always loved bright colors, but until recently, I didn’t feel fully comfortable wearing them. Growing up, I always thought that I should wear darker colors because they were “slimming” and would help hide my fat curves.

There was a time when almost everything in my closet looked like 50 shades of black. I unintentionally wore so many dark colors because I was insecure and wanted to hide my body. If you’ve ever had body image issues, you know that when you’re unhappy with your body, wearing bright colors is the last thing you want to do.

But is it possible to be confident in colors at any size? Yes!

How To Confidently Wear Bright Colors At Any Size

My weight used to yo-yo a lot, and with that so did my confidence and self worth. Whenever I’d get down to my “goal weight,” I’d start to feel more comfortable wearing brighter colors. One of the first times I wore a bright piece was my senior prom (after I’d lost about 30 lbs). It was a beautiful bright yellow, backless gown with beaded detail and a dainty train. I remember feeling like a goddess when I wore it, and rightfully so. But that confidence quickly faded as the number on the scale went up.

I’d look back at my prom photos and feel horrible. I convinced myself that I’d never be able to wear another dress like that again unless I lost more weight.

But guess what? Wearing dark colors doesn’t change your body, and neither will wearing bright colors. Your body is the same size, and has the same flaws no matter what color you choose to wear. It’s all about how you FEEL!

Once I made this revelation, my closet slowly transformed into a much brighter and more colorful place. Black is still one of my favorite colors, but I no longer wear it because I’m trying to hide my body. I wear it because I love it, and it makes me feel confident. This is my rule of thumb when deciding what to wear- I encourage you to live by it! Confidence does the body good.

Coral Maxi Dress With Turquoise Choker

This dress is an oldie but goodie, and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. The first time I wore it, I paired it with nude flats and an opal bib to prance around Washington D.C. with my bestie. Yes, I’m that extra.

My turquoise choker was begging me to be worn, and it made the perfect compliment to this bright coral dress. Paired with the matching bracelet, this would be great to wear to a wedding, bridal shower or a fun day date.

Unfortunately this Bisou Bisou dress and JustFab choker are out of stock, but I’ve linked some colorfully confident regular and plus size dresses under $50 + chokers below! My exact shoes are linked below as well, and they’re under $35.

How do you feel confidently colorful? Tell me in the comments below!
