How to Wear Black Dresses & Tops in the Summer

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

I spent yesterday lounging by the pool, drinking Lucien Albrecht Sparkling Rosé and spending time with good people. The last few weeks have been a little bit stressful, so it was nice to unwind!

With summer right around the corner, I wanted to share this black and white off-shoulder polka dot midi dress look with you. I try to keep my closet looking light, bright and airy during the Spring and Summer months, but I love finding ways to incorporate dark colors as well.

One of my favorite ways to break up all-black or dark outfits is to accessorize!

As I mentioned in this post, rattan, straw, and bamboo accessories are a great way to add a little summer flair to any lewk. Try belting your black dresses or tops with a rattan buckle belt or throwing on a straw hat, bamboo purse or espadrille wedges (like the ones found here).

Another idea is to add a pop of color to your look with various accessories. In this outfit, for instance, I opted for pink wedges and a turquoise ring. You could also mix in colorful statement earrings or necklace, a patterned cloth headband or scarf or a bright or neutral colored purse.

My favorite colors to pair with black are pink, white, turquoise, yellow, coral, gold and lilac. Don’t be afraid to mix and match!
